ROGER MURPHY
I
have been writing poetry since my schooldays. The poems on this website show a selection of my work over the years, including much recent work.
I was born in Dublin in 1955 and the family emigrated to England the following year. I went to Wimbledon College – a Jesuit-run school. Aged 11, I won a Junior Exhibition to The Royal College of Music but at 19, chose not to take up the life of a professional musician. Instead, I joined my father who had started a business designing newspapers and magazines for industry.
He died when I was 22 and I developed the nascent business and went on to design publications for some of the largest companies in the world. I also lectured on design in America, the UK and across Europe. As Covid 19 broke out, I enrolled at Birkbeck College, London University, and graduated with a degree in Creative Writing. I am married to Patricia and I live in Surrey. Our three children persist in visiting us from time to time.
